Denver
Denver is the capital of the state of Colorado and its largest city as well. Known as the “mile high” city, it is located in the breathtaking South Platte River Valley, just east of the Rocky Mountains. The city lives up to its nickname: its official elevation is 5280 feet, which is exactly one mile above sea level. No other city of Denver’s size and population is located on such a high elevation. Also, the city itself represents the demarcation of where the Mountain Time Zone begins in the United States.
Set atop the Rocky Mountains, the city of Denver is a true mixture of opposites: it almost seems as though the skyline of a city somewhere from the northeastern section of America was picked up and set down in a pure, untouched mountainous landscape. Although the call of the wild is as close as Denver’s city limits, the city boasts a cosmopolitan lifestyle. The city is home to several successful professional sports franchises, all of which enjoy a marked advantage when playing in their home arenas, due to the thin, high-elevation air that only Denver residents are acclimated to. The LoDo section of the city is known for its cultural identity and is filled with popular bars, restaurants, and nightclubs. The city is also home to several reputable cultural establishments, such as the Denver Art Museum, the second largest Performing arts center in the U.S.; these features make Denver a highly rated city for singles. And, in spite of its seemingly remote location, Denver has become quite a diverse, eclectic city over the years, drawing a host of different cultures and ethnicities.
