Irvine

Considering its significant population of 202,079 residents, the city of Irvine is a highly populated city, given its young history. Incorporated only in 1971, the city is part of the famed Orange County, California. Irvine is also the largest city within Orange County based on its land area, which extends over 69.7 square miles. The large expanse of the city was critical in its development, since Irvine was started as a planned city by the Irvine Company. Very recently, Irvine was rated The Safest City in the United States, an honor that it has consistently won since 2005.

Because Irvine is a planned city, a program known as “Destination Irvine” has had much to do with bringing commerce and industry to the city. This program, run by the city’s Chamber of Commerce, has managed to attract many significant corporations and manufacturers into the city, providing tens of thousands of jobs to the community. While the top employer in Irvine is the University of California, Irvine, with 7845 employees, the city is also home to Parker Hannifin and Parker Aerospace, both of which are involved in the aircraft and aerospace industries, New Century, Washington Mutual, and Option One Mortgage, all three of which are Mortgage and Finance companies, and other assorted companies such as Verizon Wireless, Freedom Communications, Broadcom, and General Electric.
