Nicknamed the “Heart of America,” the city of Kansas City is the second largest city in the state of Kansas, with a population of 146,867 residents. The city has a unique relationship to Kansas City, Missouri, a satellite city just across the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri rivers. The city derives its nickname from the fact that Kansas City stands at almost the dead geographical center of the entire United States.

The city of Kansas City grew up in the 1800s and quickly became synonymous with the expansion of the west. The city became a hub and jumping-off point for prospectors, explorers, pioneers, settler, and opportunists seeking a fortune in the wide-open west. It was also known as a major cow town.

Kansas City, Kansas was also famous for refusing to enforce prohibition laws during the 1930s. As a result, the city grew famous for its rollicking nightlife. Even to this day, Kansas City is famous for its nightlife, music, venues, bars, and nightclubs.
