The Baritone Horn uses a mouthpiece and similar mouth and breathing techniques as other brass instruments, however the mouthpiece on a Baritone is much larger and requires more breath in order to create certain deep tones. All in all, the instrument has a deep, mellow tone that allows it to blend in nicely with other instruments in an orchestral setting. As a result, the Baritone Horn is not known to be a solo instrument, due to the fact that it is unable to pierce through the accompaniment of other instruments.
