About Trombone
The trombone is a musical instrument that is part of the brass family of instruments. Like other instruments such as the trumpet, tuba, baritone horn, and French horn, it is a lip-reed aerophone, and changing the vibration of the lips creates many of the notes on the instrument. Unlike other brass instruments, however, the trombone uses a telescopic slide to create notes, as opposed to valves as found on other brass instruments. This long slide also allows for pronounced note slurs that are unable to be created on virtually any other instrument.
The trombone is one of the most prominent instruments used in a symphonic orchestra; it is often used in classical music, due in part to its wide range of notes and tone. Although it is capable of creating deep, mellow tones, the trombone also possesses the ability to cut through the sound of other instruments and play solos, which is why it has been often features in various forms of jazz music, particularly Dixieland jazz. In any case, students who wish to learn how to play the trombone should work one-on-one with a trombone tutor.
