About Skating
Skating is a sport that involves the use of special boots or shoes that are equipped with an apparatus that allows the user to glide over smooth surfaces. The most common form of skating uses either metal blades for skating on ice or wheels equipped with ball bearings in order to skate on hard, smooth surfaces. Of the two genres, ice skating is associated with several popular sports, such as ice hockey, speed skating, and figure skating. All three of these sports demand differing strengths and techniques using ice skates, with ice hockey skates designed for maximum support and protection, speed skates designed for fast, streamlined response, and figure skates designed for maximum maneuverability. Ice skates use the friction that occurs between the edge of the metal blade and the ice to create a thin layer of melted water that the skater is essentially hydroplaning on. As a result, when one ice skates, they are essentially skating on liquid water. Ice skating, therefore, demands a great deal of balance, and for many people it takes quite a long time to master.
In recent years, there have been new developments in technology that have improved upon roller skates. Whereas original roller skates featured four wheels on each skate set up in two-by-two format, new skates, known as rollerblades, position three to five wheels in one line, similar to an ice skate. This improvement in design has led to many of the ice skating sports to be applied to rollerblades as well. Regardless of the skating sport you wish to pursue, working one-on-one with a shaking tutor can be a tremendous advantage.
